So here is all the stuff you don't know about me:- (deep breath)....I was born in rochford in Essex on the 18th of may 1982 .....(you do the maths), I have one sister....yay!!! unfortunately no brothers........boo!!!!
I went to various schools the last being beauchamps were I actually stayed all the way to the end.....go me!!!, after that I went to college to study art and design, and then went on to do a fashion HND, by the time I finished college I was so sick of art and drawing I didn't pick up a pen or pencil for about the next 10-15 years.
(In which time my life took various other avenues....I won't elaborate we'll leave that for the next blog lol ;-)
Suffice to say that I have an extensive collection of name tags and hairnets!!!!!
I later went back to education to perssue another passion of mine...MUSIC, I think fashion and music go hand in hand anyways so, there not really as far from one another as you might first think.
So I found myself at the British Academy of Music in London were I studied music performance, I played the guitar a little already and have always loved singing but I wanted to know more, I wanted to learn how to read sheet music and arrange music so you can take your favourite songs and break them down and change them into somthing that sounds completely different, which I really enjoyed and am so glad I done as music is somthing that will always be in my life.
Throughout every different avenue I have taken I have always known one thing....I want to work for myself.
So, whilst at college in London and broke i thought i need to make some money and I started to put together a company, Betty's Boutique Ltd was formed and so the pens and sketch pad got dusted off and started doodling, I already had a good camera (because I have a good boyfriend), and I started
taking notes of everything I liked and started to get a small collection together, the idea at first was to find someone, somewhere to make them cheap and then i can sell them.......Brilliant plan......not really, as everyone and there aunty are doing exactly this, and trying to find a reputable factory to mas produce my drawings while you have to pay for every crap sample they send you, (which resembles nothing of the drawing you sent) was much like trying to find a needle in a haystack.
So back to drawing board for me!!
Then I decided "well bugger it "with the designing part, il buy from a wholesaler and sell on......Brilliant Plan.......er..no no no no!!!!! Because again, you need to speculate to accumulate dear!!!! Predicament.....lots of ideas.....no funds ......oh tooty!!
Then I had I a breakthrough (or breakdown whatever you want to call it) while trawling through endless suppliers, i thought, well I'd better just stick to one particular thing to keep the cost low to start of with, for example, just shoes, or handbags, or dresses......yes that's it dresses, i love dress shopping it's so much more fun than buying a pair of jeans!!!!
And then i reminded myself of my 30th birthday,i made everyone wear black ties and evening gowns as no one from my school year had a prom (they started doing that the year after I left.....how rude!!!!!!) so I felt I'd missed out, and the drama that unfolded in the weeks running up to my party was as if we all were really going to prom it was quite surreal...
Anyhoo it was the dresses the set the cat amongst the pigeons, and we all loved them so much, i for one spent easily a consecutive week dress surfing, but I just did not get board looking at them all the shiny fabric and sparkly bits.....in a word....mesmorised!!!!!
So I got to thinking (ssshhh if your really quiet, you just about hear chris's eyes rolling.....how much
is this bright idea gonna cost him lol) oh by the way chris is my long suffering boyfriend......he deserves a medal :-)
I want to make my own evening dresses, no mass produced, no factory, no drama, just me, my pins, dummy, and some fabric and embellishments....I'm in my element!!! Since I was little I always loved going to the little haberdashery's they had one in my home town it's not there anymore but I loved it in there, I was like a magpie, anything that looked remotely like a sequin I had to touch.
So now days I'm currently sketching and getting a few collections together, brushing up on my machine skills and blogging .
If there are any questions anyone has be it about me, or Betty's Boutique, or blogging or anything really please feel free to contact me either post your question on here or email me and providing its not to personal I will do my vey best to answer . Thanks for reading xx
